The Orion Nebula, also known as Messier 42 or M42, is a diffuse nebula situated in the Milky Way Galaxy, in the Orion Constellation. It is one of the brightest nebulae in the sky and visible to the naked eye in the night sky. Located approximately 1,344 light-years away from Earth, the Orion Nebula is a stellar nursery where new stars are being born. It is part of a much larger star-forming area known as the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex. The nebula’s vivid colors and dynamic structures are the result of high-energy ultraviolet radiation emitted by newly formed stars ionizing the surrounding gas, making it a popular subject for both amateur and professional astronomers. Its mass, temperature, and composition provide key insights into the processes involved in stellar and planetary formation.
